Overflow parking is located in the lot on Acorn Street directly across from the alley entrance, or on the street. *Please respect our neighbors and do not block the Aunty’s House entrance door, or loading dock, Olefson Art Opticals, or the RISD loading dock. Clay is messy! Wear comfortable clothing you won’t mind getting dirty with clay or glaze. Most ceramic materials will come out in the wash, but cannot guarantee that your clothing won’t get damaged.
-
The price includes 25 lbs. of clay, dip glazes, and all firings. Additional clay is available for purchase for $30 per 25 lb. bag. Additionally, all work over 12” in any dimension will be subject to firing fees which are 15¢ per ounce.
-
Yes! All students enrolled in a class, will have space to leave work throughout the duration of class. If work or clay is not claimed 2 weeks after the conclusion of a class, it will be reclaimed (thrown out).
-
Currently our classes are for folks 18 and older.
-
Anyhow Studio does not offer one-time group throwing events. Making ceramics is a slooooow, multistep process, which does not easily lend itself to a one-time event.
Picture signing up for a cooking class. You arrive, put on your apron, chop a bunch of onions and garlic, clean up, and then leave. Sure, you practiced your knife skills, and hung out with some cool folks, but where’s the risotto?
A one-time pottery class is similar. In order to experience the entire process, we recommend at least 6 weeks of instruction. Instead of one night, consider gifting an open studio drop-in, or gift card for your dear one to take a class with us. -
Our 8-week classes include 3 Drop-In slots. You may use these Drop-In slots for absences or additional time in the studio. Once enrolled, a unique code will be emailed to you which will be valid for the duration of class + 1 week after class ends.
Drop-ins & studio time
-
Drop-In students have taken at least 1 class, and have a basic working knowledge of the ceramics process. If you are brand new to clay, we recommend signing up for a class!
-
You have 1 year to utilize your Drop-In slots after purchase.
-
The Drop-in fee covers 3 hours of studio access. Firing fees and clay are calculated separately.
-
Outside clay and glazes are not currently permitted. We offer a large selection of communal tools, but you are welcome to bring your own.

The burning question that every potter wants to know! But first, a quick explanation of the firing process —
When loading a kiln, there are many factors to consider such as moisture level, size, shape, and glaze application. Imagine a game of Tetris, but instead of playing with sturdy blocks, you are playing with fragile, often irregularly shaped ceramic works. Sometimes your work will fit perfectly in the kiln that is being loaded, and sometimes we need to wait to safely fire it.
We do our absolute best to fire work in a timely fashion, usually 10-14 business days, but we will never speed up the process if it will compromise our kilns or any person’s work. -
Parking is available in the lot directly outside of the studio. Overflow parking is located in the lot on Acorn Street directly across from the alley entrance.
*Please do not block the Aunty’s House entrance door, or loading dock.
-
Please email the studio hi@anyhowstudioprovidence.com at least 24 hours in advance.
-
We aren't able to issue refunds for missed drop-in slots for any reason. If you know ahead of time that you need to reschedule your drop-in slot, please email the studio.
membership
-
9AM - 9PM Tuesday - Sunday. Members are required to sign up for studio time via our scheduling software Sawyer.
-
$175 per month with a 3 month minimum commitment.*
*Effective February 1st we will be increasing the price to $215. This price adjustment has come after very careful consideration of the studio’s costs and the benefits of Membership. We want to continue to provide each Anyhow Studio Member with a high-quality experience, clean and well-equipped facilities, and ensure work is both handled and fired with care. This increase will help cover rising expenses in energy for kiln firings, maintenance & replacement kiln parts, increases to the cost of glaze materials, and enables us to pay our studio staff a fair wage.
-
We are looking for a minimum of 1 year working with clay on a semi-regular basis, or 3 classes.
-
Each member is assigned an 18” x 48” shelf for tools, materials, and clay. Additional storage for works in progress is included.
-
The studio offers Laguna 55, an off-white lightly speckled stoneware.
-
No, you are not required to use Laguna 55, but most members do. You may use your own **cone 6** clay body with the expectation that you reclaim it on your own, and keep all water, slip, and wet clay away from the studio reclaim system.
*The studio can’t accommodate red clay at this time. -
The studio has a collection of 10+ glossy and matte dip glazes.
Members are encouraged to purchase their own underglazes and store them on their shelf. -
We allow most commercial cone 6 glazes **except the following:**
- Ritual glazes
- Special effects glazes including crackle, crawl, bead, gloop, lava, flux, etc.
- Wonderglaze
We **LOVE** the following commercial glazes:
- Amaco
- ‘Velvet Underglaze’
- ‘Potter’s Choice’
- ‘Cone 6 Celadon’
- ‘Cone 6 Satin Matte’
- Mayco ‘Stroke and Coat’
- Speedball
- ‘Underglaze’
- Coyote
- ‘Archie’s Cone 6’
We **do not** allow any glazes that are unmarked, mixed at home or any other studio. -
No, experience operating a kiln is not required. An Anyhow team member is responsible for loading and unloading all kilns.
-
The short answer? Nope.
Here’s the long answer: Anyhow was founded out of a desire to serve beginners and intermediate artists, and we are in service to that mission. I wish we had the square footage to accommodate every industrious entrepreneur but that is not the case. Day to day business operations such as large scale production work, and packing and shipping are simply more than the studio can handle. -
We love your entrepreneurial spirit, but we can’t fire work under these circumstances. If you’d like to propose a workshop to teach at Anyhow, you can submit one here.
-
Members are allowed 2 guest passes per month wherein your guest may use all studio facilities. Members are responsible for their guests and will keep them accompanied at all times and informed of all relevant studio practices.

-
